This project "… reflects one of the strands explored in the current international art scene. It is interesting to note that the inaugural art exhibition in Tai Kwun Contemporary-HK, 'Dismantling the Scaffold' (2018) is exploring artists' collaboration; that 'Artists at Work' at the Courtault gallery -The Courtauld Institute Of Art, London (2018) focuses on the representation of artists in the process of making; and that the past exhibition 'Unfinished –Thoughts Left Visible' at the MET -NY (2016) addresses the question of when a work of art is finished.

All these themes are running through Decombe's project. Many of her works are community driven projects either through artists’ collaborations or via the participation of the public. She is also striving to make contemporary art an inclusive practice within the broader cultural scene by bridging art and education, as it is the case in her current proposal THE NEXT SHOW 不日騷."

PROGRAMME [ [ PART 1 (1 HR) ] ] .

To expose the founding concepts of this project through the screening of the 3 artists' performances THE NEXT SHOW 不日騷 (16 12 2018):

- Collaboration and inter-disciplinarity

- Three artists at work within the concept of ‘unfinished’

- The process of both making and looking at art with .

To create an opportunity to reflect on and share our artistic experience with the participants, in turn reflecting and sharing their perception of the performance (first hand or through the screening)

[ [ PART 2 (1 HR) ] ] .

To encourage the understanding of artistic practice through workshops led by the artists:

- Raphaelle de Broissia > The artist, the materials, the tools and the transformation process

- Philippe Charmes > Defining the concept of performance

- Frederique Decombe > Use of language; from instruction to literary materials’ sampling

The artist, the materials, the tools and the transformation process

De Broissia will present some of the transformation processes she is using in her work, and will demonstrate some of them using bleach, paper and ink.

Defining the concept of performance

Charmes will question the following:

- Concept of duration and repetition in performance.

- Interrogate the narrative structure of a performance and the notion of Beginning and Ending (planning/ improvisation).

- Crossing the boundary between performance and theatre. What is the implication of a script in this respect?

- Role of his collaborators in his performances. Do they incarnate people and/or ideas?

Use of language; from instruction to literary materials’ sampling

Decombe will present past works demonstrating how the use of language has taken different forms/objectives, and how the content of this language has come to be a signified about art, and the text a sonic element.

A short workshop will take place following one of Decombe’s pieces from THE NEXT SHOW不日騷.
