Josef Bares (* 1982) is a media artist of Czech/German origin, currently living and working in Hong Kong.

He holds an MFA degree in Intermedia Art from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague as well as a BA degree in Business Administration and an MA degree in International Business and Economic History from the University of Economics in Prague, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Creative Media, the City University of Hong Kong.

He has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowship, including the Leinemann Art Award (2009), Essl Art Award (2011) and the Erste Foundation Fellowship (2012). He has been invited as an artist-in-residence at the National Centre of Contemporary Art (Saint Petersburg), Swatch Art Peace Hotel (Shanghai), Taipei Artist Village (Taipei) and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul). His artworks have been exhibited in Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Poland, Russia, Taiwan and USA.
